QFI Grandmaster 2019

The 18th annual edition of the annual QFI Grandmaster quiz was held recently on the 21st of July, 2019 at PS School. A QFI fixture since the year 2002, the Grandmaster is the annual QFI lone wolf quiz for solo participants. The previous year’s winner Srinath Bhashyam was the QM for this year’s edition.

Srinath had planned a marathon day and had mentioned that quiz would proceed after lunch as well. The meeting announcement was sent out that the quiz would run from 10 AM till 5 PM. Ultimately, after a marathon prelim, semi-final and final, the quiz ended at 8 PM!

Starting with a prelim of 40 questions (which amounted to 50 points as questions 31-40 were 2 pointers) 16 qualifiers made it through to Semis. After a marathon semi-final of over 70 questions, with a break for lunch in between the semis, the top 9 (would have been 8 usually but as there was a tie 9 were taken) made it through the final, again of over 70 questions. After an amazing day of quizzing, Manu Sudhakar emerged as the QFI Grandmaster of 2019. Close behind him was Kiddo (Ravi Mundoli) at 2nd followed by previous winners of the quiz KVK (Kiran Vijayakumar) and Kid (Gopal Kidao) at joint 3rd.

QFI thanks Srinath for this fantastic, unmatched effort in making such a grand quiz for us all and thanks to all those who turned up to make it a special day of quizzing! The quiz will be sent out to the QFI 2019 subscription mailing list shortly. Don’t miss this magnum opus. You can subscribe to QFI at http://subscribe.quizfoundation.com
