Today’s question comes from Gaurav Sundararaman, who is, in his own words, “a sports buff whose love for sports range from T20 cricket all the way to 9-Ball pool. He is also (rather unusually) a very big fan of the Australian cricket team. His big dream is to win an open sports quiz if there is ever one… sigh!!! You can read his personal blog right here.”

If three people made up an exhaustive list, and two of them are the people in the visuals below, who is the third? Also, what connects them?

Maurice Allom (Visual 1) and Damien Fleming (Visual 2) were the first and last people to take a hattrick on their test debuts. The only other cricketer to have achieved that feat is Peter Petherick.

    These two uncles are Maurince Allom and Damien Fleming. The third uncle would be Peter Petherick. These are the only three uncles to have taken a hat-trick on Test debut.

    and the photo left out must be Peter Petherick (and I think the reason he’s been left out is there’s no pic of his on cricinfo – else there’s no reason to not show the face of such an obscure guy)

  23. I remember an interesting anecdote Thomas Masun told me that he had got from his penfriend in pakistan. His penfriend’s uncle had gone to watch a test match between the pakis and the kiwis and he wanted to pee badly. Javed Miandad was batting and the uncle took off. When he got back to his seat, Intikhab Alam was walking back to the pavillion. Javed wasnt on the pitch and neither was Wasim Raja who came in after javed. So he asked the guy next to him as to what the @#$% had happened and the chappie replied that the new dude who was bowling for the kiwis for the first time had taken a hatrick and his name was Peter Pathetic(sic) aka Peter Petherick.
    So Thomas used this info to discover that the other 2 blokes in this question also took hat-tricks on debut and just smsed this answer.
