The man in the visual was Ji Xianlin, the first person from China to be awarded the Padma Bhushan by the Indian Government.

    This is Ji Xianlin, the famous linguist and writer, who was the first Chinese person to get a Padma Bhushan.

    I vaguely remembered reading about him because of an article talking of the Padma Bhushan winners which had my ex school principal´s name in it, but this info has surprisingly not made it to wikipedia yet (although Dr. Chona has!)

  5. After putting much struggle on Google with search words like Chinese + Man + Honour figured out that this person is Ji Xianlin – an indologist who was given the Padma Bhushan by the Govt of India and hence the first Chinese to get this award. I hope this is the answer.

  7. This is Ji Xianlin, the Chinese scholar and Indologist awarded a Padma Bhushan last Republic Day, for his contributions to the scholarship of Sanskrit in China. I think he also translated the Ramayana into Mandarin, in verse.
