QFI Chennai will hold a double-barrelled quiz session this coming Sunday, 24th June. As always, there will be a QF1 and a team quiz. Both quizzes will be hosted by Samanth Subramaniam and Ashwin Kumar.

Now normally, most people would step aside by noting that our celebrity QMs need no further introductions. But given the fact that these two are probably the only superstars who need no introductions to your humble QFI correspondent, we will take it upon ourselves to say a few words about each of them.

Samanth Subramaniam is a critically acclaimed writer and podcaster. More pertinently, he sets and hosts the annual QFI Open. Opinion is also divided regarding whether he is the Lennon or McCartney in the fab quizzing lineup that is QED. When he’s not writing about ports in storms, he can be found perusing the Sabhas of Chennai and testing samples for his forthcoming magnum opus, ‘Following Thayir Sadham’.

Ashwin is a critically acclaimed author as well. By author, we mean of this polemic that appeared in The Wire (https://thewire.in/…/if-you-think-quizzing-is-for-a-select-…); by critically, we mean much discussed and by acclaimed, we mean among fellow quizzers. 2018 is quizzically recognized as the year of Ashwin – one in which he has won (or nearly won) every quizzing accolade there is to win. It is believed that the Chinese government is viewing his performance closely and may henceforth declare every 12th year from 2018 on wards as Year of The Ashwin (replacing the dog). Ashwin is also well known for setting workoutable questions and we do not expect this quiz to be any different.

The venue is PS Senior, Mylapore, and the session will begin at 10 a.m. Full address and other details are at the bottom of this post. No fees or subscription or registration is necessary to take part. Just turn up on the day, for one or both of the quizzes, whether you want to participate or just watch.

For those unfamiliar with QFI Sunday formats, an explainer: The QF1 quiz is a solo written quiz, comprising around 30 questions. The team quiz is for teams of 3-5 people apiece, but all teams are formed by random allotment on the day, so there’s no need to form a team in advance. The QF1 quiz starts at 10 am. The team quiz starts at around 11:15-11:30 am.

QFI does issue annual subscriptions as well, but this is a purely optional way to support QFI and receive every one of its Sunday quizzes (and quiz fest quizzes) by email. If you wish to subscribe or renew your subscription, you can do so at one of the Sunday meetings or online at http://subscribe.quizfoundation.com. For 2018, our annual membership is a nominal Rs 1,000.
