Daily Question – 90

Today’s question comes from Anjali Ramachandran.

What is this? What is it inspired by?

This is the answer the blog was looking for – it is an ad for Agent Provocateur lingerie, inspired by Peter Paul Rubens’ ‘The Massacre of the Innocents’ and Paul de la Roche’s ‘The Execution of Lady Gray.’ Anything close gets points.

Cracked by five of you! In order – zizzyphus, Thomas Masun, Raghuvansh, Meera, and Chris Pearson. Well done!

  1. Lingerie chain Agent Provocateur’s campaign inspired from A Rake’s Progress: the orgy by William Hogarth

  2. Lingerie chain Agent Provocateur’s new ad campaign inspired from A Rake’s Progress: the orgy by William Hogarth and also Delaroche’s Execution of Lady Jane Grey and they also say gothic decadence of Rubens and Caravaggio

  3. Dear Uncle:

This is obviously the shoot for the new season of Agent Provocateur lingerie, for which I got the catalogue just yesterday. What a coincidence!!

It is inspired by Peter Paul Rubens’ “The Massacre of the Innocents”, with additional elements from Paul de la Roche’s “The Execution of Lady Gray.”

Uncle, in the beginning, you were nicely setting Megan Fox questions, but now we are at Trystero symbols by overrated American authors. Why, uncle, why? Or at least let Anjali Aunty set more questions — she reliably gives us either porn-type questions or New York-type questions.

    Kind regards,
    Thomas Masun

  4. Dear Annachi,

Abachaaram! Asingam! Today only my aalu Valarmathi had to choose to sit with me for answering question. The moment she saw this, she blushed furiously and asked “Ennango, indha karmathaya dhenamum paakarenga?”. Thus saying, she left the room in a huff.

Anyway, this is Agent Provocateur’s new ad, which I saw online yesterday when Valarmathi was away. Their website tells me this is an avial of inspiration from Delaroche’s “The Execution of Lady Jane Gray” and Rubens’ “Massacre Of The Innocents”.

Now I must go and mollify my Vallu. The prices of mallipoo have also gone up. What can I do?

  5. Agent Provocateur’s new campaign, featuring Peaches Geldof, Daisy Lowe, and Paz de la Huerta, inspired by The Execution of Lady Jane Grey by Paul Delaroche

  6. Agent Provocateur/ Tableaux Vivants.

The papers say the campaign is “Chanelling the gothic decadence of Hogarth, Caravaggio, Rubens and Delaroche’s Execution of Lady Jane Grey.”

But I think they have been spending too much time studying the photo.

PS: Why was this question setter not given an intro? I think she deserves one!

  7. the image is a depiction of the seven deadly sins…sloth, lust, wrath, greed, gluttony, envy and pride.
